A special discussion was held under the chairmanship of the Minister of Transport, Highways and Mass Media Dr. Bandula Gunawardena to discuss the various problems that have arisen in connection with the salaries and promotions of the staff of the Railway Department and the problems that have arisen in relation to the salaries and promotions of other ranks including train drivers.
The minister instructed the concerned officials to complete the recruitment of 3000 people from the multi-task force in the railway service this month as it has already been approved to fill the staff vacancies in the railway department. The minister also emphasized that the selected people should be given special attention to be employed in the railway stations in the areas where they live.
