The Food Safety Unit of the Ministry of Health said that more than 40 containers of chillies that were unfit for consumption were recommended for re-shipment within the last three months.
A senior officer said that they have considered the requests made by some importers to destroy the chillies in Sri Lanka without reshipping them and have taken steps to facilitate them.
He also stated that steps will be taken to check every chili container imported to the island at the port.
Therefore, the Food Safety Unit of the Ministry of Health said that all dry chillies sold in this country are of standard quality.
