The Matsuri Japanese Language Center was opened by Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena and Japanese Ambassador Mishukoshi Hideki at Avissawella Sitawaka with the aim of providing free Japanese language and Japanese cultural education to the youth of this country.

The Prime Minister stated that this center will be very useful for the youth of Colombo district.

The Prime Minister said that strengthening the Japanese language knowledge of Sri Lankan youth will further strengthen the friendly relations and cooperation between Japan and Sri Lanka.

The Prime Minister thanked the Japanese Ambassador for establishing the Japanese Language Training Center in Sitawa and the Labor Minister for providing an unused building to establish the institute.

The building has been given to the Center under the government’s policy to utilize unused government buildings for productive purposes.

Ambassador Mishukoshi Hideki said that there is a strong interest among young people in Sri Lanka in learning Japanese.

He said that many Japanese companies operating abroad and companies in Japan hire skilled workers from Sri Lanka, and Japanese language knowledge is a prerequisite for those jobs.

Mr. Hiroyuki Shimotori, the Japanese ambassador and co-director of the Matsuri Japanese Language Center, assured that qualified young people who acquire knowledge of the Japanese language will be given jobs in Japan.

The Ambassador also expressed confidence that as Japanese and Sri Lankan teachers with high Japanese language proficiency will be contacted by the Mathsuri Institute to conduct classes, the Sri Lankan students will be taught Japanese in a practical manner so that they can get employment opportunities in Japanese companies and institutions.

Member of Parliament Yadamini Gunawardena, senior officials of the Japanese Embassy, educators, principals, students and many other guests and local residents attended the opening ceremony.
